Small community orchard planting ceremony for Chorley in Bloom

Small community orchard planting ceremony for Chorley in Bloom

Last Sunday Chorley in Bloom held a tree planting ceremony at Cotswold House.

The planting of a mini orchard took place at 11am which Chorley Mayor Steve Holgate and Mayoress Emma Adlam both attended.

Chairman of Chorley in Bloom Iris Smith said: “We planted a small community orchard at Cotswold House with 10 mixed fruit trees donated by the Mayoress and her husband Paul.

“The Mayor and volunteers from the Scouts and Chorley in Bloom helped with the planting.”

She added: “We were extremely lucky with the weather. We had the work we did inspected every now and again by Tinker the dog who seemed to approve our work and kept us all amused.

“Thank you everyone for your hard work. Thanks also go the Chorley Council operatives who dug the holes for us.”

2021 North West in Bloom Awards

We were pleased to welcome Bernard Pendleton Chair of Britain in Bloom Northwest Area to present our GOLD Award together with the Mayor of Chorley Cllr Steve Holgate.
Awards were also given to Astley Park Walled Gardeners who received a Level 5 – Outstanding for their entry into Its Your Neighbourhood. They were also given a special award for achieving level 5 for the last 5 years.

Lancaster Court also achieved Level 5 for their community garden.
Whittle Community Garden achieved a level 3 – Advancing. This is quite a new community garden and is a credit to the small band of volunteers that help Dedrah Moss in Whittle.

The Preston Temple had a judge’s discretionary Highly Commended Award.
Well done everyone and thank you all for all your hard work and achieving such brilliant results. ⭐⭐⭐

Community Garden

Some photos from last week. Weeds never stop growing so we’ve been weeding again. Also planting onions, collecting seeds and cutting herbs for drying. Thanks go to Linda and the Preston Temple Elders and Sisters for all their help. We were very lucky with the weather. 🌻

Community Garden

We are still getting to grips with our Community Garden after the enforced neglect from COVID. Thanks go to the community who are using the produce now. There is plenty of purple Kale which makes delicious crisps if anyone would like to try it. We were working with volunteers from the Preston Temple this morning. Weather permitting we will be there again next Thursday morning if anyone would like to come and help or just see what we are doing. Thanks go to the Sisters & Elders and Linda for their help this morning. We had some fun again. 🌻🌻
